Betting on the North Carolina Tarheels (17-7)

North Carolina will go as far as where its offense takes it, but the Tar Heels have to play defense, too, whether they like it or not. They scored over 90 points in the first meeting this season with the Wolfpack, but they still fell prey to NC State on Jan. 27 at home, 95-91 in overtime. NC State went ballistic from the three-point area in that game, going 15-of-20 from deep, which should warn North Carolina that it can’t simply try to fight fire with fire this Saturday against NC State. Whatever the case is, North Carolina will still resort to its offensive prowess. The Tar Heels are scoring 82.8 points per game, and shoots 46.4 percent from the field. Moreover, Roy Williams’ boys are making 8.2 three-pointers per game on 37.2 percent success rate. Perhaps even more impressive is the team’s body of work on the glass. They are tops nationally in rebounding with 43.4 boards per contest. The Tar Heels massively outrebounded NC State in the first meeting, 48-34.

North Carolina is 9-1 SU in its last 10 games in Raleigh.

Betting on the NC State Wolfpack (16-7)

Allerik Freeman was close to being unstoppable in the Wildcats’ previous win over North Carolina. The senior guard dropped 29 points in that game in 41 minutes of action. He sank all his seven three-point attempts and went 8-for-11 from the field overall. Freeman is just the type of player who could take over on any given game. He is averaging 14.2 points per game. The same goes for junior guard Torin Dorn who had 20 in Chapel Hill last month. As for the entire team, NC State is putting up 80.8 points, good for 36th in the nation. Although the Wolfpack went bonkers from deep against North Carolina, their inside-the-arc game can’t be underestimated, as they are shooting 52.2 percent on two-point shots. The Wolfpack are 5-3 ATS in their last eight home games in which they were underdogs.

Writer’s Prediction:

North Carolina avenges their loss to NC State last January with an 85-80 victory.
