Betting on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (17-12)
The Fighting Irish’s top scorer, Bonzie Colson, is back after a long absence due to a foot injury, but whether he’ll be show up in top form against Virginia is one thing that remains to be seen. Nevertheless, Colson’s presence is a shot in the arm of Notre Dame, which is averaging 76.1 points per game. Up against the nation’s best defense this Saturday, Colson is going to be big help for Matt Farrell, who became the team’s go-to scorer during Colson’s time away from action. Farrell is averaging 17.2 points per game. Colson, meanwhile, is putting up 21.4 points while also grabbing 10. rebounds per contest. It would take more than great games from Colson and Farrell for Notre Dame to upset Virginia on the road, so guys like TJ Gibbs (16.0 PPG) and Martinas Geben (11.1 PPG) to step up. That’s going to be easier said than done against the Cavaliers, but it would help Notre Dame, too, if they could give Virginia get a taste of its own defense. Notre Dame is allowing 69.4 points per game.
The Fighting Irish are 2-0 SU/ATS in their last two road games.
Betting on the Virginia Cavaliers (26-2)
Virginia’s defense is just as sharp as it was at any point before this season. To this day, the Cavaliers are No. 1 in the nation defensively, as their opponents have to bleed for an average of 52.1 points per game. Teams shoot just a pathetic percentage of 37.5 from the field versus Virginia, and even high-scoring teams like Duke and North Carolina had failed to score more than 64 points opposite the Cavs. Notre Dame is expected to struggle offensively against Virginia, though, the latter can’t be overly confident about that, especially considering that the Cavaliers were upset not that long ago by Virginia Tech in Charlottesville. Speaking of that place, Virginia is 9-1 SU in its last 10 games there. The Cavs are 3-4-1 ATS in their previous eight outings at home. Kyle Guy and Devon Hall lead the Cavs in scoring with averages of 14.5 and 11.8 points, respectively.
Writer’s Prediction
