Betting on the Oakland Athletics
Seven different players recorded a hit for the Oakland Athletics, who escaped with a 6-3 victory over the struggling Los Angeles. Stephen Vogt, batting third for the first time this season, hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the third inning. It was his fourth home run of the season. Vogt leads the A’s with 12 RBIs this season.
[sc:MLB240banner ]Vogt had hit .184 against Los Angeles in his career before going 1-for-3 Monday night. He is yet to face tonight’s starter Hector Santiago. The Los Angeles starter has allowed a homer in each of his two starts this season. Oakland short stop Marcus Semien also homered on Monday. Billy Butler went 2-for-3 with a double after snapping a 12-game hitting streak Sunday.
Taking the ball for the A’s tonight is Drew Pomeranz (1-1, 3.00 ERA). The lefty has split his two starts this season. He shut out Seattle for his first win of the season, but allowed four earned runs in a 6-1 loss against Houston. Pomeranz should be able to take advantage of the Angel’s anemic batting, though. He has limited the Angels to hit .172 in six games (two starts) over the past three years.
The A’s have lost four of their last five games at Angel Stadium.

Betting on the Los Angeles Angels
Last season’s best offense, the Los Angeles Angels, are hitting just .214 and have gone 2-for-24 with runners in scoring position over their last three games, all losses. Kole Calhoun and Matt Joyce, the Nos. 1 and 4 hitters, have hit just .196 with 25 strikeouts in the season.
2014’s AL MVP, Mike Trout is having no such trouble. He’s hitting .354 with three home runs and nine RBI’s, all team-highs. Trout has one hit, a solo home run, in six career at-bats against Oakland’s Pomeranz.
But the Angels should be well taken care of with Hector Santiago (1-1, 2.92 ERA) on the mound. He won his second start of the season, after allowing just one earned run on a homer against Texas on April 14. Santiago is 2-0 with a 0.91 ERA in five career starts against the A’s despite allowing Oakland batters to hit .295 against him.
The Angels have lost seven of their last 10 games.
Writer’s Prediction
Oakland (+102) extends the Angels’ losing streak.
