Betting on the Oakland Athletics (8-7)
Rich Hill will take the…uh…hill later tonight, looking to capture his second win of the season. Hill didn’t have a nice performance in his last start, giving up three earned runs on nine hits before getting pulled out in the fifth inning of a 4-2 loss to Kansas City on April 15.Hill and the A’s, however, are aiming to exploit the Yankees’ struggle against lefties of late. The Yankees are hitting an unspectacular .226/.320/.321 this season opposite southpaws. Moreover, they’re just 0-5 in their last five games against lefty starters.
Oakland hitters will get their first look at Yankees starter Luis Severino. Jed Lowrie and Danny Valencia have been two of Oakland’s hottest hitters lately. Lowrie is 6-for-14 (.429) in his last five games. Lowrie has always been a happy camper at Yankee Stadium, where he’s a career .293 hitter (12-for-22).Valencia, meanwhile, is 6-for-20 (.300) in his past five games.

Betting on the New York Yankees (5-8)
Well, Luis Severino is disappointing a lot of Yankee fans this early in the season. The 22-year-old righty showed promise in his rookie year, but 2016 hasn’t been good to him thus far. Currently sporting a 0-2 record and a 5.91 ERA with only seven strikeouts in his first two starts, Severino will look to notch his first win of the year against Oakland.
Severino was a mess in his last start, drawing four earned runs on eight hits in just 5.2 innings of work in a 7-1 home loss to Seattle. Severino’s still young so the Yankees are exercising their patience on him and they should continue to pin their trust on the Dominican, who had a 5-3 record and 2.89 ERA in 11 starts last season.
While Severino searches for his form, the Yankees bats can do him a solid by coming alive later tonight.
Speaking of which, Carlos Beltran has been rolling out with nice numbers at the plate lately. The veteran is 10-for-25 (.400) with three doubles and a homer in his last six games. Beltran is also 3-for-8 (.375) with a home run and two RBIs in his career matchup with Oakland’s Hill.
