Jon Gruden’s second era in Oakland kicked off last week, as the Raiders opened up the preseason with a win. It’s more about developing chemistry within a team and instilling his system in his players during his segment of the offseason, but it’s good to see that for the Raiders that they’re also winning at the same time. Will they win their second in a row this Saturday, when they meet the Los Angeles Rams head on at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum?
The Raiders are priced +3,500 to win Super Bowl 53, while the Rams have a price of +1,000 to do just that.

Betting on the Oakland Raiders (+3)
In his first game back as head coach of the Raiders, Jon Gruden proved he’s still got the touch, as Oakland eked out a 16-10 victory over Detroit in Week 1 of the preseason. Despite the low-scoring nature of the game, the Raiders’ offense ran smoothly than it did for most of last season. Connor Cook went 11-of-19 for 141 passing yards and a touchdown, while undrafted free agent rushed for 86 yards on 13 carries. Warren’s performance benefits his chances of making it to the final 53-man roster. The Raiders’ defense also showed up, as Oakland held Detroit to just a paltry total of 227 yards and only 88 on the ground. Rookie defensive tackles P.J. Hall and Maurice Hurst shined in their NFL debuts, particularly when it comes to pressuring the opposing quarterbacks. The Raiders recorded four sacks and constantly applied pressure on Lions QBs, Jake Ruddock and Matt Cassel.
Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (-3)
Unlike the Raiders, the Rams’ offense was hard to watch during Los Angeles’ 33-7 annihilation at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens last week. The Rams’ passing game coughed up only 49 yards, and even though quarterback Jared Goff didn’t see any action, the team could have done better. Brandon Allen passed for 73 yards on 10-of-15 completions with a touchdown, while Sean Mannion only went 3-for-13 for 16 yards and an interception. The anemic offense was largely because of the poor play of the Rams’ offensive line, which allowed four sacks for a loss of 40 yards. The backfield showed more life, as John Kelly and Justin Davis rushed for 77 and 41 yards, respectively, on 20 combined carries. The Rams’ pass rush also chipped in some highlights, as Tim Williams, Zach Sieler, and Matthew Judon each had a sack.
Writer’s Prediction
Rams win, 23-21.
