Betting on the Ohio State Buckeyes (18-10 Overall / 8-9 Conference)
Consistency has been a problem for the Buckeyes lately, as they have gone 2-3 SU over their last four games. In their most recent outing, however, they crushed a ranked Iowa Hawkeyes team on Tuesday, 90-70, at home. Prior to that, they got trounced by the Maryland Terrapins on the road last Saturday, 72-62. Ohio State got the loss despite hitting 11 3-pointers on 33 attempts. However, it wasn’t the team’s offense that spelled its doom but rather it’s poor job on the glass. The Buckeyes were outrebounded by the Terps, 40-28. That’s the same problem the Buckeyes had in their 79-67 loss to Purdue earlier this month at home in which they were beaten on the glass, 30-23. It seems that the Buckeyes’ 3-point shooting will keep them in the game in the rematch with Purdue, though, as they are sixth in the league with a 33.7 percent shooting from deep in conference games.
The under is 8-2 in the Buckeyes’ last 10 road games.
Betting on the Purdue Boilermakers (18-10 Overall / 8-9 Conference)
Unlike Ohio State, Purdue is humming in conference play. In fact, the Boilermakers are on a three-game roll, heading into a home tilt against the visiting Illinois Fighting Illini this coming Wednesday. Key to the Boilermakers’ success is their dominant offense that opponents have repeatedly found hard to contain. The Boilermakers are ranked second in the Big Ten in adjusted offensive efficiency per KenPom with 110.0 points per 100 possessions. They also have a 50.4 effective field goal percentage, fifth in the conference. That manifested in their win over Ohio State, as Purdue shot 47.9 percent from the field in that game and drilled 12 3-pointers on 24 shots from deep. They also went 21-for-25 from the foul line. Guard Carsen Edwards is likely to cause headaches for Ohio State again. He had 27 points in 38 minutes in the first meeting with the Buckeyes, and leads the conference with 23.4 markers per contest.
Purdue is 3-1 straight up (SU) in its last four home games against Ohio State.
Writer’s Prediction
Purdue wins, 72-63.
