Betting on the Oklahoma City Thunder (45-34)
Russell Westbrook, Carmelo, Anthony, and Paul George have a few more regular games to iron out their chemistry, which, to be honest, should have been done a long time ago. Then again, developing on-court rapport among three alpha males is not an easy thing to do. Nevertheless, the Thunder were able to beat Houston once this season, when they earned a 112-107 victory at home versus the Rockets on Christmas Day. All three starts were clicking that day with Westbrook posting 31 points, 11 assists, and three rebounds and George coming away with 24 points. Anthony, meanwhile, had 20 markers. The Thunder seemed to have an advantage in transition against Houston, as the have averaged 15.1 fast-break points in two meetings this season against the Rockers, so expect Brodie and company to turn on the boosters every time they get an opportunity to run.
Betting on the Houston Rockets (63-15)
Houston is safely atop the Western Conference. Whatever happens the rest of the way, the Rockers will finish the regular season with the top seed in the West. Still, beating a team like the Thunder is always a nice motivation for a team like Houston, which could use an extra psychological advantage in the playoffs should it cross paths with OKC in the postseason. The Rockets won the last meeting between the two teams, as Chris Paul led them to a 122-112 victory in OKC on Mar. 6. Paul had 25 points and got a lot of support from James Harden who had 24 markers. The Rockets used their hot shooting from behind the arc to the hilt in that game, as they went 17-for-33 from deep. The Rockets are tops in the NBA with 15.4 threes per game, so expect them to keep hoisting long bombs this Saturday against the visiting Thunder. Harden has averaged 26.0 points and 12.5 assists in two meeting with OKC this season.
Writer’s Prediction:
OKC wins, 117-113.
