Betting on the Oklahoma State Cowboys (13-8)
Someone has to step up from the Cowboys, as their second-leading scorer in Tavarius Shine is deemed out indefinitely with a wrist injury. Cameron McGriff is the top candidate to get a nice bump in minutes as a result of Shine’s absence. McGriff played in 22 minutes and finished with eight points and 10 rebounds off the bench in last Saturday’s 66-65 loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Cowboys leading scorer, Jeffrey Carroll, meanwhile, is averaging 15.7 points per game. He should find ample scoring opportunities against Kansas’ mediocre defense that allows 70.4 points per game. Oklahoma State has done well against the spread as an underdog in Lawrence. In fact, the Cowboys are 4-2 ATS in their last six visits to Allen Field House as underdogs.
Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks (17-4)
The Jayhawks are in a groove after recording their second-straight win with a 70-56 victory over a pesky Kansas State Wildcats team on the road on Monday. As usual, Kansas used its juggernaut offense to crush their opponent. Four Jayhawks scored in double figures against Kansas State with Svi Mykhailiuk leading the way for them with 22 points. Kansas is third in the Big 12 with 83.8 points per game, and with Mykhailiuk and company coming off a good shooting game, the Jayhawks could still be feeling hot when they host the Cowboys. Kansas shot 45 percent from beyond the arc against the Wildcats, draining nine three-pointers on 20 attempts. Mykhailiuk had five three threes, while Devonte Graham had two triples. As a team, Kansas is 10th in Division I basketball with 10.7 three-pointers made per contest with a scary-good 40.7 percent accuracy from deep. Kansas is 4-0 SU in its last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction:
Kansas wins, 78-72.
