Betting on the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (+11)

Record: 18-10 Overall / 10-5 Conference

Oral Roberts proved that it’s not just a one-trick Cinderella pony by following up on its earth-shaking first-round upset win over the Ohio State Buckeyes with another shocking victory in the second round, taking down the Florida Gators, 81-78. The Golden Eagles continue to wreak havoc in the tournament largely with the most mundane aspect of basketball: free-throw shooting. The Golden Eagles reminded everyone that they are the No. 1 free-throw shooting team in the nation by averaging 16.5 freebies made on 20.5 attempts per game for an 80.5 success rate at the charity stripe. With that, Oral Roberts keeps on surviving despite shooting badly from the field, but the Golden Eagles are also feeding off their defense that has forced a total of 35 turnovers in the last two games. The duo of Max Abmas and Kevin Obanor has yet to be solved in the tournament, and the two should be a problem again for Arkansas.

Oral Roberts is 6-0 against the spread in its last six games overall.

Betting on the Arkansas Razorbacks (-11)

Record: 24-6 Overall / 13-4 Conference

Arkansas should be ready for the Golden Eagles’ frenetic defense. After all, the Razorbacks just passed the test against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, one of the best defensive teams in the nation, during a close 68-66 win in the second round. The Razorbacks showed it can adjust to Texas Tech’s deliberate, sluggish pace, but this time around, they can play more of their own style, as the Golden Eagles also play fast. The Razorbacks are 17th in the nation in adjusted tempo with 72.8 possessions per 40 minutes. The difference here for the Razorbacks will be their rebounding. They entered the Big Dance 17th in the nation with 39.7 rebounds per game and 32nd in offensive rebounding per contest. Those numbers are way better than Oral Roberts’, which are 300th or worse in the nation in both categories.

Arkansas is 10-2 against the spread in its last 12 games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Arkansas wins, 84-70.
