Pennsylvania Quakers vs Harvard Crimson Predictions, Picks, Odds, and NCAA Basketball Betting Preview – March 16 2019

The No. 4 seed Pennsylvania Quakers face off against the no. 1 Harvard Crimson in the IVY League Tournament this Saturday at John J. Lee Amphitheater, Yale’s home court. Harvard won both meetings against Penn this year, slowly chipping away at an all-time record that has been dominated by the Quakers, 133–42. The Crimson are favored again this weekend, but don’t count the Quakers out by any means.

Betting on the Pennsylvania Quakers (19-11 Overall / 7-7 Conference)

The Quakers are on a small but notable three game winning streak going into this game against the Crimson, taking down Dartmouth, Yale, and Brown en route to this weekend’s IVY League pairing. But alas Harvard is a thorn in their side here in 2019. On February 16, Penn forward AJ Brodeur scored 23-points and guard Devon Goodman added 22-points to put forth an admirable offensive effort, but the team still lost 75-68, blaming poor 3-point shooting at just 25%. Harvard out-rebounded them 44-32 that night to boot. It was a lower scoring affair on March 1st, although AJ Brodeur impressed again, scoring 24-points as Goodman struggled for just 15-points. Penn shot just 34.5% from the field in game two, and once again the issue revolved around 3-point shooting, with the Quakers shooting only 26.9% from beyond the arc. At least they kept up on the boards, out-rebounding the Crimson ever so slightly, 38-37.

After a win this season, Penn is 6-6-1 against the spread (ATS).

Betting on the Harvard Crimson (17-10 Overall / 10-4 Conference)

Harvard had a close call on Saturday against Columbia, squeaking out an 83-81 overtime win against a team they would have had no business losing to. Guard Bryce Aiken was impressive, pouring in 36-points and lending 5 assists towards the victory. Aiken was also a beast in the February 16th game against Pennsylvania, scoring 25-points en route to their 75-68 win over the Quakers. But in the much lower scoring game against Penn on March 1, Aiken only managed 12-points. While four Crimson players scored in double digits, no one got more than a dozen, so it seemed like a moot point (albeit one that led to a 59-53 win). On that important game, Harvard shot 41.7% from the field, 45% from the 3-point line, but had 14 turnovers. The only saving grace was the Penn also gave up 14 turnovers, otherwise the Crimson may have dropped that game despite strong percentages on the offensive shooting side of things. Harvard needs to be more consistent across the board if they expect to do the expected against the Quakers this Saturday.

After a win this season, Harvard is just 7-9 ATS, covering 43.8% of the time. Harvard has a 6-10-1 ATS record going in as a favorite in the IVY here in 2018-19.

Writer’s Prediction

Penn pulls off a win, upsetting Harvard 67-65.
