Betting on the Purdue Boilermakers (16-2)

Purdue nearly suffered its first conference loss on Tuesday, but managed to take home a very slim 70-69 win over the Michigan Wolverines at home. Apart from sustaining a clean conference slate, the win over Michigan also stretched Purdue’s unbeaten run to 12 games. Purdue owes its success so far to a balanced game on both ends of the court. The Boilermakers are 17th in the nation in offense with 82.5 points per game, while keeping opponents down to only 63.6 points each contest — 18th overall in Division I.

Purdue shoots the ball very well with a 50.1 field goal shooting percentage. With the Golden Gophers missing shot-block artist Reggie Lynch to suspension, the Boilermakers could be extra bold in trying to drive to the basket and taking shots near the rim. They own a scary-good 55.5 success rate on two-point shots.

Purdue is 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS in its last four road games.

Betting on the Minnesota Golden Gophers (13-5)

It’s true that losing big man Reggie Lynch is a punch to the gut of Minnesota, but it’s not the end of the world for the Golden Gophers. For one, they still have the pair of Jordan Murphy and Nate Mason, who are inside the top 10 in scoring in the Big Ten. Murphy is second in the league with 18.9 points per game, while Mason is eighth with 16.0. They also have sophomore guard Amir Coffey in the fold who is pumping out 14.1 points per game.

Their rebounding will also take a hit with Lynch out but it should also only open up more chances for Murphy and rest of the Golden Gophers to get more rebounds for themselves. Murphy leads the Big Ten in rebounds with 12.7 per game. As a team, Minnesota is fifth in the nation in rebounding (43.0).

Minnesota is 6-1 SU and 3-3 ATS in its last six home games.

Writer’s Prediction:

Purdue makes it 13 in a row with an 84-76 win versus Minnesota.
