The San Antonio Spurs extended their winning streak to two games with an emphatic 103-92 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Friday night. Five players scored in double figures for the Spurs who improved to 2-1 on their rodeo trip. Since this grueling road trek first started in 2003, the five-time NBA champions have produced a .697 winning percentage (84-36) as well as a point differential of plus-485.
Leading the way for the Spurs in this game were Kawhi Leonard and Dewayne Dedmon. The Knicks had no answer for Nikola Jokic who racked up 40 points and nine rebounds. The Knicks have now dropped 20 of their last 26 games.
The Knicks will look to end their losing rut when they lock horns with the San Antonio Spurs this coming afternoon. For New York to pull off the shock win, it needs to improve on its play on the defensive end. The Knicks are 25th in the NBA in scoring defense, allowing a whopping 109.4 points per game this campaign. That abysmal defense reared its ugly head in the loss to Denver as the Knicks gave up at least 30 points in each quarter for the first time this season,
One guy who needs to step up his play against San Antonio is Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks were outscored by 13 points when Carmelo Anthony was on the floor against the Nuggets. Anthony, who’s long been the subject of trade rumors, is averaging 23.2 points this season, ranking him 17th in the league. He is eight points from passing the great Charles Barkley (23,757 points) for 25th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
