San Diego State Aztecs vs Nevada Wolf Pack Predictions, Picks, Odds, and NCAA Basketball Betting Preview – March 9 2019

The No. 17 Nevada Wolf Pack (+2000 to win the national championship) got dealt with a huge loss by the Utah State Aggies last week, but are still in the running for the Mountain West Conference (assuming the Aggies don’t win their last game). In any case, the Wolf Pack can’t afford to lose to the San Diego State Aztecs for the second time this season, as that would mean a lower seed in the national tournament.

Betting on the San Diego State Aztecs (19-11 Overall / 11-6 Conference)

San Diego State are looking to get up and get back in the win column following a letdown 76-74 home loss last Wednesday to the Fresno State Bulldogs. The Aztecs were victimized by a cold spell early in the game. They missed 14 of their first 17 shots. They trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half and seven at the half. In the rematch with Nevada this coming Saturday, San Diego State will look to carry a more efficient offense along with the stingy defense that it applied on the Wolf Pack in a 65-57 home win back in January. The Aztecs’ offense will go as far as where the pair of Jalen McDaniels and Devin Watson takes it. McDaniels and Watson each had 15 points in the Nevada game. San Diego State also held the Wolf Pack down to only 33.9 percent shooting from the field, which wasn’t much of a surprise, as the Aztecs are second in the MWC in defensive efficiency, per KenPom.

San Diego State is 7-2 against the spread (ATS) in games after a loss this season.

Betting on the Nevada Wolf Pack (27-3 Overall / 14-3 Conference)

Coming off a controversial loss to the Utah State Aggies on the road, the Wolf Pack got it together and bounced back by crushing the Air Force Falcons last Tuesday, 90-79. Caleb Martin paced Nevada’s starters with 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field, but it was Jazz Johnson who was the hottest player for the Wolf Pack  in that game. Johnson came off the bench and fired 27 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the field, including seven 3-pointers. Overall, the Wolf Pack went 13-for-26 from behind the arc for an incredible 50 percent conversion rate from deep. That kind of accuracy from distance was missing for Nevada in the first meeting with San Diego State, as the Wolf Pack sank just seven triples on 25 attempts in that contests, but they should improve this time around. For one, they are playing at home, where Nevada is 8-5 ATS this season. Nevada has also covered the spread in each of its last four home games against the Aztecs. The Wolf Pack crushed the Aztecs at home in February of last year to the tune of an 83-58 score.

Writer’s Prediction

Nevada wins, 78-64.
