Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (+8)

It might be time for Colin Kaepernick to stand up. After San Francisco’s 33-21 loss to Arizona, which featured another bad performance from Blaine Gabbert, the call for the Niners to get Kap on the field moving forward got louder. It’s just not certain whether it was loud enough for Chip Kelly to hear.

In any case, the 49ers have to limit their turnovers. Gabbert was a mess against the Cards, passing for only 162 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions on 18 of 31 completions. Overall, the 49ers committed three turnovers, which Arizona converted into 17 points. It also didn’t help Gabbert that the Niners offensive line barely did anything to protect him, as he was sacked seven times for a loss of 27 yards.

San Francisco, however, was good for at least one half, especially defensively in the Arizona game. The team held the Cards scoreless in the first two quarters. Buffalo doesn’t have as explosive an offense as Arizona so the 49ers should have a better job containing the Bills’ attack.

Despite the struggles on offense, Carlos Hyde and Jeremy Kerley managed to be bright spots on that side of the ball. Hyde ran for 78 yards with a touchdown on 22 carries versus Arizona, while Kerley appeared to have developed solid chemistry with Gabbert, having recorded 190 receiving yards on 14 catches with two touchdowns in the last two outings.

The over is 3-0 in San Francisco’s last three road games.

Betting on the Buffalo Bills (-8)

Buffalo is suddenly on a streak. The Bills opened the season with two straight losses, but has managed to stitch together three consecutive victories to stay in contention for a division title in the AFC East. That stretch includes a 30-19 win over Los Angeles on Sunday. The Bills’ chances of extending their win streak to four look good with a matchup against a shaky San Francisco squad this Sunday.

Buffalo’s resurgent defense should give the Niners a hard time moving the chains. For one, the turnover-prone San Francisco will be facing the Bills’ defense that is second in the NFL in turnover differential with a +9. Conversely, the 49ers have a -1 mark.

Look for the Bills to center their offense around LeSean McCoy and the backfield. McCoy has been on a tear since Week 3, as he has racked up 330 rushing yards to go with two touchdowns in the past three games. He is poised to unleash carnage on San Francisco’s D that ranks second worst in the NFL against the run with 146.8 rushing yards allowed per game.

Buffalo is 4-1 ATS in its last five home games.
