We may have just seen the end of Jimmy Garoppolo’s stint as a starter for the 49ers. Jimmy G passed for just 181 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions and two fumbles in last Sunday’s 30-18 home loss to the Indianapolis. If Trey Lance’s knee feels okay ahead of the Chicago game, the Niners could be forced to give the rookie the starting gig in an attempt to turn things around. The 49ers are 0-4 straight up in their last four games, three of which were against legitimate Super Bowl contenders (Green Bay, Seattle, Arizona), But it should get easier for them this weekend, as they’ll just be dealing the Bears, who just couldn’t get it together. Chicago’s porous pass protection could be a tasty snack for the Niners’ pass rush. The Bears have allowed the most sacks (26) this season.
The 49ers are 5-5 against the spread in their last 10 road games.

Justin Fields and the Bears have just been put in the torture chamber by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bears suffered a 38-3 road loss to Tom Brady and the reigning Super Bowl champions. Chicago simply didn’t look like an NFL team next to the Bucs, Fields got picked off three times and sacked four times for a loss of 16 yards. There’s no way but up for the Bears after that devastating loss. At least they are not going to face a powerhouse in Week 8, which presents them with a considerable chance to stop the bleeding. When Fields got sacked nine times in the loss to the Cleveland Browns on the road in Week 3, he bounced back with a decent performance in Chicago’s 24-14 home win over the Detroit Lions. Despite the 38 points it gave up to Tampa Bay, the Bears’ defense can be expected to make things happen against the 49ers, who are 29th in the league with 1.8 turnovers per game.
The Bears are 3-2 against the spread in their last five home games.
