Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (+7.5)
The 30-17 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday marked the ninth-straight defeat for the San Francisco 49ers, who are now being dubbed as the “one-and-Niners” by the internet as we speak. Such a shame that the 49ers ended up with another L as they’ve been very competitive in their recent losses despite the final outcome of those contests.
Colin Kaepernick had another decent effort for San Francisco’s passing game, going 16-of-30 for 206 yards through the air along with a couple of touchdowns. It was Kaepernick’s second-consecutive game without getting picked off, but his O-line nearly cost him to turn the ball over after he was sacked five times – four in the first half alone – and fumbling the ball twice without losing possession.
If the Niners find it hard to pass against the Dolphins in Week 11, it’s a good thing then that star running back Carlos Hyde appears to be primed to pitch in via the ground game once more after dealing with a lengthy shoulder injury. Hyde had 19 carries for 86 rushing yards on Sunday along with three catches for 24 receiving yards, and should be geared up to take on Miami’s third-worst run defense (over 125 rushing yards allowed per contest).
Then again, considering that San Francisco just gave up 280 yards and four passing touchdowns with no picks off of Tom Brady, the team’s defense will likely be its undoing once more. What’s worse is that the Niners have lost six-straight road games heading into Week 11 (1-5 ATS), and will face a surging Dolphins team that’s suddenly two games over .500. The team must definitely get off to a hot start this coming Sunday, as it has been outscored 153-89 in the second half of contests this season.
Betting on the Miami Dolphins (-7.5)
Rest easy, ‘Fins fans; your Miami Dolphins survived with a narrow 14-10 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday to secure your team’s fifth-consecutive win.
For a while there, the Dolphins appeared to have lost all their mojo on offense after being held scoreless in their first 11 drives of Sunday’s game. But then Ryan Tannehill led a stunning comeback for his team by passing for two touchdowns with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter to spoil Rams quarterback Jared Goff’s NFL debut. That late, spirited run by Miami will definitely go a long way against San Francisco this coming Sunday.
While Tannehill’s overall numbers in that game weren’t that pretty (172 passing yards, 2 TDs and one interception), running back Jay Ajayi continued to run the ball well since taking over the team’s backfield in Week 6. Ajayi finished Sunday with 77 rushing yards on just 16 carries, and he’ll definitely be licking his chops to run roughshod over the Niners’ run defense that’s dead-last in the NFL at 180 rushing yards allowed per game.
Week 11’s matchup should be a grind-it-out match between San Fran and Miami. But regardless of the actual game flow, the Dolphins have a huge edge in momentum and have home-field advantage on their side already. They’ve won five of their last six at home (4-2 ATS), where they should be able to make quick work of a very disappointing Niners team.
Writer’s Prediction
Make that six-consecutive wins for the Dolphins (-7.5), 24-14.
