The Los Angeles Angels tied their series with the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday as they defeated the visiting team, 5-4. With their losing streak finally over, will C.J. Wilson and the rest of the Angels end the series with a bang? Or will the Mariners steal a win before heading back home for a lengthy nine-game home stand?

Betting on the Seattle Mariners

The Mariners have no time to sulk after their disappointing 5-4 loss in Game 2 of their series against the Angels on Tuesday. Seattle looks to bounce back from that loss, as they hand the ball to Roenis Elias, who’s still searching for his first win of the season.

[sc:MLB240banner ]Elias (0-1, 3.86 ERA) was shaky in his last outing, giving up two home runs in the first two innings of the Angels’ 4-3 loss to Houston on May 1. He settled well after that, though, as he surrendered just two singles and a walk before walking off the mound in the sixth inning. Elias hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in each of his last 10 starts, all of which have gone under in the totals.

Still, Elias will have to do more to give Seattle some level of confidence on him tonight. With that said, the offense likely have to lead the Mariners if they are to win the series finale against the Angels.

It’s not much of a secret that Seattle’s offense is heavily dependent on Nelson Cruz’s bat. Cruz, who leads the majors in homers (14) and RBIs (26), went 0-for-4 last night, but he may like his matchup with Angels’ hurler C.J. Wilson. Nelson is 5-for-13 (.385) with a double and homer against Wilson thus far in his career.

Robinson Cano is another hitter who sports a decent line against Wilson. He’s 11-for-41 (.268) with seven walks against the lefty. That said, Cruz and Cano were reduced to mere mortals by Wilson in the Mariners’ 2-0 loss to LA on April 7, when the duo went hitless in seven combined at bats. Cano broke his eight at-bat hitless streak in the second game of this series when he went 3-for-5 at the plate.

Betting on the Los Angeles Angels

Albert Pujols

With their offense finally showing up, the Angels were able to snap their four-game skid at the expense of the Mariners on Tuesday night. The Halos now attempt to win consecutively for the first time this month when they send C.J. Wilson to the mound later tonight. The Angels are 8-2 in C.J. Wilson’s last 10 home starts.

The five runs LA scored in its Game 2 win was the most the team has scored thus far this May. (They had scored just eight total runs in the four previous games.) Albert Pujols opened up the scoring for LA in that game with a homer in the first inning. Pujols is now 4-for-7 with two runs in this series. He enters tonight’s matchup with Seattle with a 3-for-8 batting line (including a homer) and three RBIs against Mariners starter, Elias.

If there’s any doubt about Wilson’s (1-2, 2.73 ERA) ability to pitch after having his elbow drained for fluid, the lefty squashed them right away with a sterling performance against San Francisco on May 1.  In that game, Wilson allowed just an earned run on four hits in seven innings of mound duty, albeit in a 3-2 loss.

Wilson, along with closer Huston Street, had little trouble shutting down the Mariners in in the aforementioned meeting with Seattle as they limited Cruz and company down to just 2-for-29 at the plate. Wilson enters the series finale with a career record of 16-8 and with a 3.36 ERA against Seattle.

Writer’s Prediction

Los Angeles (-135) wins, 5-2.
