Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (+2)
Late-game heroics from Russell Wilson and the Seattle defense along with a bit of luck helped the Seahawks escape with the win against the Falcons last Sunday.
Pete Carroll’s troops were in full control at the end of the first half, as they built up a 17-3 advantage. But it was during the third period where Matt Ryan punished Seattle with 21 unanswered points to put Atlanta ahead. The final quarter, though, was Wilson’s turn to respond. And he delivered for his team accordingly.
The former Wisconsin QB led a critical 70-yard drive that was finished off by a 1-yard touchdown run by Christine Michael with about five minutes left to play. The Seahawks failed to convert on the extra-point and were trailing 24-23. Hence, the defense answered the call, forcing an Atlanta turnover to regain possession and eventually set up Steven Hauschka’s game-winning field-goal.
Seattle was also saved by a no-call on an obvious pass interference play by Richard Sherman at the end of the game.
But anyway, there are some issues to be fixed heading into Week 7’s trip to Arizona. The most glaring of which is maintaining the effort on defense. The Seahawks D dominated the first half against Atlanta before allowing Ryan to throw for 220 yards and three TDs in the third period alone. A repeat of that meltdown versus Carson Palmer and co. might not end well for Seattle this time around.
The Seahawks are 7-3 SU and 5-4-1 ATS in their previous 10 road games.
Betting on the Arizona Cardinals (-2)
David Johnson bulldozed his way for a season-high 157 rushing yards on 27 carries to go along with three touchdowns to lead the Cardinals to a dominant 27-3 win against a Jets team that’s done pretty well in stopping the run this year.
Apparently, that didn’t seem to be the case as Johnson’s big night catapulted the Arizona Cardinals to their second-straight win and back to the .500 mark. The 24-year-old back is now third in the NFL in rushing yards per game with 91.4. Wreaking havoc against a Seattle defense that’s giving up just 15.6 points and 74.6 rushing yards per game is not going to be easy, however.
Carson Palmer’s going to have to make good use of the Cardinals balanced attack. Besides feeding Johnson with touches, the 36-year-old signal-caller can look to their passing game. He has Larry Fitzgerald, John Brown, Jaron Brown and Michael Floyd, all of whom have amassed more than 100 receiving yards each this season, to throw to.
Fitzgerald is currently the best option downfield, as he leads the team with 32 receptions for 361 yards and five touchdowns thus far. Floyd, meanwhile, has found the end zone twice already, the latest of which happened in yesterday’s win over New York.
Arizona is 7-3 SU (3-7) ATS in its last 10 home games.
