Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (4-1)
Russell Wilson did not win MVP last year — but he’s got a strong chance of achieving that goal this season based on his splending performance so far in the campaign. Wilson passed for 268 yards and four touchdowns on 17-of-23 completions in a 30-29 upset win at home over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5’s Thursday Night Football matchup. Wilson’s accuracy and rapport with his weapons downfield is going to be a problem for the Browns, especially if Cleveland continues to miss the services of cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams. The two are the Browns’ starting cornerbacks, and their absences definitely hit the Browns hard in the loss to the San Francisco 49ers last Monday. The Seahawks’ offensive line has also been outstanding in protecting Wilson, who was sacked just once in the LA game. If Aaron Donald had that kind of a hard time getting to Wilson, it’s fair to assume that Myles Garrett and company will also have difficulties touching Wilson in the pocket.
The Seahawks are 5-5 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games.
Betting on the Cleveland Browns (2-3)
At this point, the Super Bowl hype for the Browns have completely fizzled out. Their 31-3 road loss to the Niners in Week 5 was a damning evidence to the idea that Cleveland remains far from being a true Super Bowl contender. That being said, the Browns still have top talents on both ends of the field, and it’s just a matter of putting things together. The change will have to come from Baker Mayfield, who’s clearly grasping for form. Against the 49ers, he passed for just 100 yards and had two interceptions on just 8-of-22 completions. Mayfield will be facing another stingy defense in the Seahawks’ stop unit, but again, it’s all about getting on the same page with the rest of the offense. Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. can explode on any given game, but the offensive line has to give Mayfield enough time to pass, and at the same time, Mayfield will have to be more decisive with what he wants to do with the ball. He was sacked four times for a loss of 42 yards in the Niners game.
The Browns are 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Browns win, 24-23.
