Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (1-0)
If there’s one person who stood out the most in the Seattle Seahawks’ ugly win in Week 1, it was of course QB Russell Wilson. He made sure that his team avoided an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Dolphins, mounting a late fourth-quarter drive that was capped off by a game-winning, 2-yard touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin. Wilson, who was playing through a sprained ankle at that time, finished with 258 passing yards and added 16 yards on four carries.Reports have been circling around that Wilson’s injured ankle could force him to sit out in Week 2, but the dual-threat quarterback’s latest tweet negated all that speculation. He’ll be ready to roll when they pay the Rams a visit at the Los Angeles Memorial Stadium this Sunday.
Now that that’s settled, the Seahawks should be in very good shape to get win No. 2. Their stacked defensive line, which limited Miami to just 10 points and 210 yards of total offense last week, is bound to have an easier time in disrupting the Rams’ disorganized offense. Still, holding off the likes of RB Todd Gurley will be tough for the Seattle D.
Meanwhile, the Seattle offense has to pick it up and take some pressure off of Wilson. Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse, the team’s best wide receivers, need to open up themselves more. The former was one of the few bright spots in the season opener, topping all receivers with nine receptions for 92 yards. You can expect Baldwin to try building on that.
On the ground, Christine Michael and Thomas Rawls are the ones to watch out for. The two didn’t post solid numbers against a bulky Miami front seven, but it’s only a matter of time before they turn some rushes into huge gains.
The Seahawks are 6-4 SU and 4-5-1 ATS in their last four games on the road. But it’s worth noting that they’ve lost the last two meetings with the Rams.
Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (0-1)
Los Angeles football fans might have preferred to wait a few more years to once again call a team their own after seeing how the Rams were molested by the 49ers—yes, the 49ers—last night.
QB Case Keenum was simply terrible, passing for just 130 yards with two interceptions. Star running back Todd Gurley was silenced, being held to 47 yards on 17 carries. In a nutshell, there was arguably nothing positive that the Rams could take away from that 28-0 beat down.
Looking at Week 2’s home opener with the Seahawks, the Rams will desperately hope that Keenum can do an acceptable job behind center this time around. But facing a premiere Seattle defense could be too much of a challenge for him. And if he continues to struggle, LA fans might finally get a look at the first-overall pick of this year’s draft, Jared Goff. That is if he suits up, though.
Also, there’s no question Gurley has to make an impact as well. His efforts alone won’t be enough to guarantee a win, but it should help the Rams be competitive at least. Gurley rushed for 83 yards and one touchdown in his first and only meeting with the Seahawks last December.
LA is 5-5 SU and ATS in its last 10 games at home.
