The South Carolina Gamecocks will have their chance to become the first team this season to stop the rampaging No. 2 Clemson Tigers when they swing by Dabo Swinney’s team’s lair this weekend. The Tigers, on the other hand, are the overwhelming favorites in this matchup, but they can’t afford to take any chances, as a loss would likely derail their College Football Playoff plans.

Betting on the South Carolina Gamecocks (6-4 Overall / 4-4 Conference)
The Gamecocks are coming off a gimme 49-6 gimme win over the Chattanooga Mocs last Saturday at home. If anything, that win over the Mocs should have given South Carolina some measure of confidence, which the Gamecocks are going to need every bit of heading into a showdown with Clemson on the road. Gamecocks quarterback Jake Bentley was near flawless under center in the Mocs game, throwing for 339 passing yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions on 25-of-29 completions. Senior wide receiver Deebo Samuel shrugged off every type of defense Chattanooga threw at him, as he finished with 112 receiving yards and a touchdown on only five receptions. Clemson will have a target on his back, though, so the likes of Bryan Edwards and Shi Smith should step up to keep the Tigers’ defense on its toes. The Gamecocks are fourth in the SEC with an average of 262.0 passing yards per game and tied for second with 24 passing touchdowns.
The Gamecocks are 2-2 straight up (SU) and 3-1 against the spread (ATS) so far this season, but are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games, going back to last season for a little extra intel for your wager.
Betting on the Clemson Tigers (11-0 Overall / 8-0 Conference)
Much like Alabama, the Tigers crush any teams that cross their paths. The latest to get that kind of treatment were the Duke Blue Devils, who took a 35-6 loss at the hands of Clemson in the Tigers’ lair last week. The Tigers’ defense has become sharper of late, as they have allowed just 13 total points over their last two games. On the season, they are allowing just 12.6 points per game – the fewest in the nation. In addition to that, Clemson is also giving up the second fewest yards per contest with 263.5. The Tigers recorded four sacks in the Duke game, improving their season total to 40.0 quarterback takedowns – second most in the FBS. Clemson’s offense is just as fine. It’s ranked fifth in the nation with 44.4 points per game. Against the Blue Devils, Clemson signal-caller Trevor Lawrence went 21-of-38 for 251 passing yards and two touchdowns with zero picks thrown.
The under is 4-1 in the Tigers’ last five home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Clemson wins, 41-13.
