Betting on the Stanford Cardinal (5-3 Overall / 3-2 Conference)

It’s been a rough ride for the Cardinal of late. They have lost three of their last four games, a stretch that includes a 41-38 loss to the Washington State Cougars at home last Saturday. Stanford has been bothered by its increasingly worrisome defense. Although their season average reads 25.1 points allowed per game, the Cardinal have allowed an average of 31.3 over their last three outings. The offense, meanwhile, remains humming for Stanford, which got quite a performance by K.J. Costello in the Cougars game. The quarterback went 34-for-43 for 323 passing yards and three touchdowns without an interception, albeit in a losing effort. Although they have a star running back in Bryce Love, the Cardinal like to air the ball than run  with it. They are 17th in the nation with a 54.57 passing play percentage.

The over is 4-1 in the Cardinal’s last five games overall.

Betting on the Washington Huskies (6-3 Overall / 4-2 Conference)

The Huskies are suddenly battling inconsistency. If they though they were back on track following an overtime loss to the Oregon Ducks on Oct. 14 by beating the Colorado Buffaloes the following week, they were proven wrong by a 12-10 loss to the California Golden Bears last Saturday. Washington was down one key offensive player in that game, though, as the missed running back Myles Gaskin, who is still dealing with a shoulder injury. It’s very much likely that Gaskin will still be out for another game, so expect the Huskies to turn to their passing attack more. Quarterback Jake Browning, however, needs to do a better job after throwing for just 148 passing yards on 11-for-21 completions with a touchdown and an interception against the Golden Bears. On defense, the Huskies will look to pressure Costello in the pocket after unloading four sacks in the California game.

Washington is 10-0 SU in its last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Washington wins, 31-24.
