Syracuse Orange vs Miami Hurricanes Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – October 21, 2017

This Week 8 Saturday game between Syracuse and Miami will be the first time the former Big East rivals have played each other in 14 years. So, that 15-7 edge that the Hurricanes have in the series is somewhat meaningless, although each will be playing with those bragging rights in mind.

Syracuse is coming off of the biggest upset of the 2017 season so far, logging a 27-24 win at home over Clemson in Week 7. The Orange are fired up and looking to knock off another top-10 (and undefeated!) team in back-to-back games. If that happens, there is some serious money to be made, if you bet accordingly, that is. Register to bet and let’s get it on!

Betting on the Syracuse Orange 4-3 (+16.5)

The Syracuse Orange are going to be fresh this week. They are coming off an extra days rest. The Orange beat the defending champion Clemson Tigers last week, 27-24. The Orange offense was legit in last weeks win.

Syracuse’s unlikely win was fueled primarily by two things. QB Eric Dungey was very effective, throwing three touchdowns while avoiding any mistakes. It was no fluke – Dungey has been strong all year and has the confidence of a senior. Miami has a pass defense that is solid-but-not-spectacular, so Dungey has a chance to shine here.

Syracuse generated 440 yards of total offense against one of the best teams in the country. Quarterback Eric Dungey paced the Orange with 278 yards passing and three touchdowns.

Defensively, the Orange held Clemson to 317 total yards. A lot had to do with the Tigers losing starting quarterback Kelly Bryant. He was knocked out in the first half, leading to the Orange win.

Betting on the Miami Hurricanes 5-0 (-16.5)

The Miami Hurricanes are undefeated this season and ranked in the top ten. The Canes squeaked by Florida State two weeks ago, 24-20. Then found a way to win last week beating Georgia Tech, 25-24

The Miami offense played well last week. Quarterback Malik Rosier was 23 of 37 for 297 yards and one touchdown in the win. The offense racked up 481 total yards.

The Hurricane defense has been good all year, and played well against Georgia Tech last week. Miami held the Yellow Jackets to 281 total yards last week. If they duplicate last weeks performance, the Hurricanes should stay undefeated.

Miami hasn’t wanted the lead longer than they have to late in games. At Florida State two games back they scored the winning touchdown with six seconds left. Last week there were only four seconds on the clock when the winning field goal went through the uprights. That shows that this team has a lot of toughness and handles adversity well.

Writer’s Prediction

Syracuse needs to get their star receivers involved early. Ervin Phillips and Steve Ishmael are two of the most explosive wideouts in the country. If they get going, Syracuse has a chance at the upset. Miami should win this game, but better not underestimate the talented Syracuse offense. Pick: Syracuse (+17)
