Betting on the Syracuse Orange (+33.5)
Record: 1-9 Overall / 1-8 Conference
The Orange peeled another loss last Saturday, as they wasted an eight-point lead at the half in a 36-29 home loss to the NC State Wolfpack. Quarterback Rex Culpepper tossed two touchdowns and went 23 of 45 for 2544 yards, but didn’t get anything of support from the Orange’s ground attack that sputtered on its way to producing a grand total of three rushing yards on 25 carries. Despite the Orange going down with another loss, it didn’t do so without a fight, as seen by Culpepper’s performance and the exploits of wide receiver Taj Harris downfield. Harris entered the game ninth in the ACC in receiving yards and he added to his season’s total by pulling down 13 catches for 146 receiving yards and a touchdown against NC State. With just a game remaining on their schedule this season, the Orange will go all out against the powerful Notre Dame squad this coming Saturday.
The under is 3-1 in Syracuse’s last three games overall.
Betting on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-33.5)
Record: 9-0 Overall / 8-0 Conference
The Fighting Irish remain undefeated after handing No. 19 North Carolina Tar Heels a 31-17 loss in Chapel Hill over the weekend. In that win, Notre Dame showed why its defense is among the best in the nation. The Fighting Irish held North Carolina’s big-throwing Sam Howell to only 211 passing yards and a touchdown with an interception and allowed the Tar Heels to run for only 2.9 yards per carry. Syracuse’s offense doesn’t compare to North Carolina’s, so expect Notre Dame to handle the Orange’s attack easier this time around. Notre Dame is 10th in the nation with just 16.7 points allowed per game and also 10th in total defense with opponents making just 303.4 total yards per contest. Syracuse’s offensive line has been a huge problem for the Orange this season, and it’s likely to make things harder for Culpepper again this coming Saturday against Notre Dame’s pass rush. Syracuse is last in the ACC in sacks allowed with 37.0.
Notre Dame is 6-4 in its last 10 games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
Notre Dame wins, 41-16.
