The Rays are one of the league’s many unpredictable squads at the moment. They now have back-to-back wins following their 5-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, but it succeeded a five-game skid and a 6-1 stretch prior to that.
Questions are also surrounding the batting attack, starting with Logan Morrison, who, as one of their go-to hard-hitters this season (26 home runs), is only 3-of-20 in the past week. In the same span, Evan Longoria, Corey Dickerson, Steven Souza and Brad Miller are only collectively batting a decent at-best .285 (22-for-77).
Chris Archer (7-6, 3.77 ERA), Thursday’s projected starter, is also going hot-and-cold. Tampa has lost in his last two starts after winning in seven of the previous nine. The Yankees’ current roster is hitting at .281 against him all-time (54-of-192).
Tampa is down one game in the season series, 4-5.
Betting on the New York Yankees (53-46)

The Yankees are continuing to gain momentum. They are now winners in five of their last six after Wednesday’s 9-5 win over the Cincinnati Reds, and they are also recording 10 hits per game in their last five.
The offense also looks to be better than in previous months. Aaron Judge, for one, appears to have broken out of his post-All-Star slump, as he now has four hits and a pair of homers in his last 15 at-bats. He, along with Didi Gregorius and Brett Gardner, have the hottest hands in the roster as of late, with Gregorius scorching pitchers by going 11-for-21 (.524) with three dingers, four RBIs and four runs in the last seven days.
Veteran CC Sabathia (9-3, 3.44 ERA) will be leading them on defense. The 16th-year pro, who has only allowed one run in his last 11 innings, has helped the Yanks earn a win in seven of his last nine starts.
The Rays’ current roster, however, are batting a .324 opposite Sabathia all-time, led by Evan Longoria, who’s 30-of-74 with seven homers, 15 walks and, and seven strikeouts.
Writer’s Prediction
