Betting on the Tennessee Titans (-7.5)
Regular Season Record: 2-1
The Titans defeated the Indianapolis Colts, 25-16, over the weekend for their second in a row after losing in Week 1 to the Arizona Cardinals at home. Tennessee capitalized on the bum ankles of Colts quarterback Carson Wentz. The Titans’ defense could have an easier job ahead of them, as the Jets have scored just 20 points since the start of the season. Zach Wilson is clearly still having trouble figuring out life in the NFL, and he could be a sitting duck again in the pocket in the eyes of Tennessee’s defense that held Wentz to just a 66.7 passer rating in Week 3. But the bigger problem for the Jets is the Titans’ offense that’s being spearheaded by a monster running back in Derrick Henry. The Titans are third in the NFL after three weeks of the season with 159.3 rushing yards per game and sixth with 4.8 rushing yards per carry, thanks to Henry, who has 353 rushing yards and three touchdowns so far this season.
The over is 7-1 in the Titans’ last eight road games.
Betting on the New York Jets (+7.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-3
The Jets were completely outclassed in Week 3 by the Denver Broncos in a 26-0 road loss. Prior to that, they were eaten alive in a 25-6 home loss to the New England Patriots. With a rookie quarterback, this kind of ordeal was to be expected for the Jets, but they should be more competitive than what they have shown in the past two weeks. Zach Wilson went 19/35 for 160 passing yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions against the Broncos, while the ground attack mustered just 43 yards on 13 carries. Wilson was also sacked five times for a loss of 41 yards. Where is the hope for the Jets in their Week 4 game against the Titans? That could be in Tennessee’s receiving corps that might not be at full strength this coming Sunday. Titans star wideout AJ Brown is week-to-week because of a strained hamstring, and if he gets ultimately ruled out, that’s a big plus for the Jets’ pass defense that’s10th in the NFL with 217.3 passing yards allowed per game.
The Jets are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games against the Titans, dating back to 2003.
Writer’s Prediction
The Titans win, 30-17.
