Betting on the Tennessee Volunteers (+14)
Record: 2-0 Overall / 2-0 Conference
The Vols have extended their unbeaten streak that dates back to last season to eight games after defeating the Missouri Tigers at home Saturday, 35-12. Quarterback Jarrett Guarantano completed 14 of 23 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown and zero interceptions, but it was the overall work of the backfield that sealed the deal for Tennessee. Guarantano had two rushing scores and the Vols finished the game with 232 total rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground. The Vols will look to control the clock against Georgia with that kind of rushing attack, but the bigger factor for that is their ability to convert on third and fourth downs. After going 1-of-12 on third downs in their 31-27 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia, the Vols went 6-of-13 against Missouri. Tennesse also converted on all fourth-down tries against Missouri, so expect the Vols to keep that mindset against Georgia.
The Vols are 7-2-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Georgia Bulldogs (-14)
Record: 2-0 Overall / 2-0 Conference
The Bulldogs had some question marks on their offense heading into their game last Saturday against No. 7 Auburn Tigers at home. But the defense let the talking for Georgia and the offense followed in their 27-6 win over Gus Malzahn’s boys. The Bulldogs crippled Auburn’s attack, holding Bo Nix down to only 177 passing yards and zero touchdowns, while also picking him off. The Bulldogs pressured Nix in the pocket all game long, which resulted in three sacks, pushing Georgia’s season total to five quarterback takedowns. That doesn’t bode well for Tennessee’s offensive line that has given up four sacks on the season. But even if Guarantano gets to launch passes, his receivers will still have to contend with Georgia’s pass defense that has four interceptions in two games. Tennessee, as mentioned, has a running game to fall back on, but it’s hard to get past Georgia’s stop unit that just allowed 39 rushing yards on 22 carries (1.8 yards per carry) to Auburn.
The under is 6-0 in Georgia’s last six games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bulldogs win, 47-25.
