Betting on the Texas Longhorns (odds)

Record: 18-6 Overall/7-4 Conference

The Longhorns are definitely feeling good right now. That’s after they beat the Kansas Jayhawks at home last Saturday, 79-76, for their second win in a row. Texas also defeated the Iowa State Cyclones in a prior game. Texas has been showing out of late, having won five of its last six games. Apart from Kansas, the Tennessee Volunteers were another high-profile victim by Texas, which is using its suffocating defense to reap success in conference play. Texas is second in the Big 12 with an adjusted defensive efficiency of 94.2. Longhorns’ opponents are also recording just 47.3 effective field goal percentage, which is third-worst in the league. But Texas is capable on offense as well, as seen in the Kansas game. The Longhorns shot just 41.8 percent from the field versus the Jayhawks, but Texas was +9 on the offensive glass, allowing the team to get extra shots while limiting Kansas’ time with the ball.

Texas, which is averaging 68.7 points per contest, is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 road games against the Bears.

Betting on the Baylor Bears (odds)

Record: 20-4 Overall/8-3 Conference

After getting walloped hard by the Kansas Jayhawks in an 83-59 loss in Lawrence, the Bears restored their confidence by blasting the Kansas State Wildcats on the road Wednesday, 75-60. The Bears easily covered the spread as 6.5-point road underdogs, thanks to their defense that held Kansas State down to only 38.9 percent shooting from the field and 27.8 percent from downtown. Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua woke up Wednesday on the right side of the bed and scattered 21 points in 24 minutes off the bench, while James Akinjo had 15 points. Baylor is going to need those players to keep it going, especially if leading scorer LJ Cryer misses another game due to a foot injury that has sidelined him for four straight games now. The Bears made only four of 17 shots from behind the arc against Kansas State, but Baylor remains dangerous from that area. They are No. 1 in the Big 12 with a 35.2 3-point percentage and second in the conference with a 51.9 effective field goal percentage.

Baylor is 5-5 against the spread in its last 10 home games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Baylor wins, 67-61.
