Betting on the Texas Longhorns (15-11)

Since defeating the then No. 12 Sooners 79-74 at home in Austin earlier this month, the Longhorns have gone downhill, losing all of their next three outings. That includes a bad loss at home against the Baylor Bears on Monday, 74-73, in double overtime. The loss was an extra tough one for Texas, as it was the team’s second loss at home in three games. The one this Saturday against Oklahoma, however, is on the road, and the Longhorns are 3-3 ATS in their last six games away from Austin. As always, Mohamed Bamba and the Longhorns’ defense are two key elements for Texas in this game. Bamba, who is expected to be a lottery pick in this year’s NBA Draft, scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win over Oklahoma. The Longhorns are allowing just 67.7 points per game.

Betting on the Oklahoma Sooners (16-8)

Bamba isn’t the only likely lottery pick who will play in Norman this weekend. Also in that category is the Sooners’ very own player, Trae Young. Young has made is abundantly clear that he is the nation’s best player, as he is leading Division I basketball in both points (29.5) and assists (9.4). Young, however, shot poorly in Austin, going 7-for-22 from the field and just 2-for-14 from behind the arc. That’s uncharacteristic of Young, but that also just shows how focused the Longhorns were in trying to stop the explosive guard. Despite Young’s struggles from the field, the Sooners managed to shoot 51.6 percent in that game, mainly because other Oklahoma players took advantage of the free space afforded to them by a Texas defense that obsessed itself on limiting Young. If that’s going to be the case again, Christian James, Brady Manek, and Rashard Odomes should be able to capitalize. James averages 11.9 points, while Manek and Odomes make 11.4 and 8.0 per game. The three combined for 31 points against Texas.

Oklahoma is 4-0 SU in its last four games as the home team against Texas.

Writer’s Prediction:

Texas stops its skid with a 78-76 win.
