The Texas Longhorns suddenly find themselves on a two-game skid, which they will eye to prevent from getting extended to three games when they take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock this coming Saturday. Beating the Red Raiders is going to be easier said than done for Texas, especially with Texas Tech’s offense always a big problem for opponents.
While neither have a shot at the 2019 College Football Championship, the Chancellor’s Spurs title in the lone star state has bettors interested. In the last meeting back in November 24, 2017, Texas Tech defeated Texas 27-23, but overall the Longhorns have the edge in the historic series, 50-17. The Longhorns will be looking to extend that to 51 wins this November 10, 2018.

Betting on the Texas Longhorns (6-3 Overall / 4-2 Conference)
Welp. Countless hearts were broken on Saturday in Austin, as the Longhorns suffered a hard-to-swallow 42-41 loss to the West Virginia Mountaineers. Quarterback Will Grier put WVU on his back and passed for a touchdown and followed it up with a two-point conversion rush late in the game to seal a come-from-behind win for the Mountaineers. As for the Longhorns, they now have lost two in a row after a six-game win streak. That said, the Longhorns did get a sublime performance from quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who threw for 354 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions. He also added 52 rushing yards and a rushing score on 11 carries. Ehlinger will just have to use the frustration from that disappointing loss to the Mountaineers as a motivation to take advantage for a susceptible Texas Tech defense. The Red Raiders are allowing 32.1 points per game and over 458 total yards per contest. That’s good news for Ehlinger and with his two favorite targets, Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Collin Johnson. Humphrey paced his team with 143 receiving yards and a touchdown grab on nine receptions against West Virginia.
The under is 9-1 in the Longhorns’ last 10 games away from Austin.
Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (5-4 Overall / 3-3 Conference)
Patrick Mahomes is no longer putting up video game numbers for the Red Raiders, but even without him, Texas Tech can still bury opponents in points and yards. Last Saturday, the Red Raiders unloaded 473 total yards, albeit in a 51-46 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners at home. Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman had 227 passing yards and two touchdowns on 21-of-26 completions, but a lung injury forced him to exit the game prematurely, which allowed Jeff Duffey to step in. Duffey did a fine job under center, going 9-of-17 for 139 passing yards and two touchdowns. Bowman is likely going to miss the meeting with Texas, but if that’s the case, the Red Raiders can still trust Duffey to deliver the goods against the Longhorns’ defense that just got gutted by Grier last Saturday. Adding to the Texas Tech’s passing attack prospect to come up big are some injuries to the Longhorns’ secondary. Texas safety Brandon James missed the WVU game with an ankle issue, while cornerback Davante Davis was taken out of the contest with a neck and shoulder injuries.
Texas Tech is 4-1 ATS in its last five games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
The Texas Longhorns extend their dominance over the Red Raiders, winning 37-33.
