Top 10 Vince Carter Dunks and Moments

10. Collegiate Wonder

Vince Carter didn’t wait long before he started posterizing opponents. He even did it in his collegiate career with the North Carolina Tar Heels. This specific dunk against Clemson is especially memorable. Vince caught an alley-oop inbound in mid-air before slamming the ball in through two Clemson defenders. He was a man amongst boys.

9. Windmilling it in Orlando

Vinsanity was once scary individual. Not only does he rip off rims on a regular basis; he does so with some flash theatrics. Take for instance this game against the Orlando Magic back in his sophomore year. He took a pass on a breakaway, spun 360 degrees in the air, and put on a one-handed jam as everyone just helplessly watched him from afar.

8. Out of the Way Lakers

You know you’ve turned into a vicious dunker when your opponents don’t even want to get in your way. Carter was already posterizing opponents left and right. He went one step further by showcasing his sick handles against the Lakers. He put on a mean ankle-breaking cross step before flying through the lane untouched for a dunk. The Lakers just stood in helpless awe in fear of being posterized by VC.

7. Clippers be Damned

You don’t do long passes like this in basketball. Not unless you have Vince sprinting full speed ahead to attack the rim. VC did what he does best: he threw down a one-handed slam to send shockwaves throughout Staples Center. Not only did he electrify with this jam; he also sank the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer later on. What a specimen indeed.

6. All-Star Game Dunk

Josh Smith may have won the 2005 Slam Dunk Contest by dunking over Spud Webb, a 5-foot-7 guard. But Vince showed why he was still the king of the rim when he wowed in the All-Star Game a day later. VC was his usual mean self, posterizing a 7-foot-2 man in the game. He gets bonus points for throwing himself an alley-oop assist.

5. Tim Duncan Who?

Who the hell is this young gun Tim Duncan? Cannon fodder for VC that’s who. Even Duncan himself (considered as one of the game’s greats) couldn’t keep Air Canada from taking off for this mean dunk over the Spurs big man at AT&T Center at that. Timmy now has five championship rings to his name. But Vince can still dangle this unforgettable moment in the Spurs big man’s face.

4. R.I.P Alonzo Mourning

How do you counter a vicious dunker like Carter? Get one of the best shot blockers to guard the paint. Alonzo Mourning was a shot blocker by trade; he had a total of 2,356 blocks in his career, averaging 2.8 per game. But even he wasn’t enough to stop Vinsanity from taking over. Vince took off to and nearly broke the rim. Mourning was left “mourning” while he stumbled as the basketball bounced off his back.

3. No Finger Wag for Mutombo

You can’t get any more swag than Dikembe Mutombo. He was notorious for his finger wag whenever he’d block an opponent’s shot. He won Defensive Player of the Year four times and collected a whopping 3,289 blocks in his career. But when Air Canada took off, Mutombo was reduced to a mere helpless puppy.

2. Putting on a Show

When Vince Carter dunks, the whole world watches. Air Canada put on quite a show in his first ever Slam Dunk Contest in 2000. Not only did he viciously attempt to break the rim; he also used a variety of dunks to wreak havoc. VC did everything; from a reverse 360 windmill to a 180 windmill and a between the legs windmill to win his first and only Slam Dunk Championship.

1. The French Surrender

The New York Knicks Frederic Weis was drafted 15th overall in the 1999 NBA Draft. But he never came to North America to play. Why? Vince Carter may have scared him off in the Final of the 2000 Olympic Games. VC stole the ball, and took off to hurdle and posterize Weis. Not much need to be said. Just watch this beauty of a dunk, which obliterated not just Weis but also his prospective NBA career. Plus points for the monstrous scream that soon followed.
