You might want to strike while the iron is hot with Francisco Liriano (3-2, 5.36 ERA) making a start tonight. The Blue Jays have won in all of Liriano’s past six starts despite the pitcher’s letdown 13.83 ERA during that stretch.

Liriano, however, was fantastic in his most recent gig in which he allowed just two earned runs on five hits while striking out nine in a 7-6 home win against Tampa Bay on June 14.

If he’ll not have his stuff later, Liriano will be counting on the Blue Jays’ offense that has rescued him plenty of times recently; Toronto averaged 6.83 runs  in Liriano’s last six starts.

Josh Donaldson is a big threat to Texas pitcher Nick Martinez tonight. Donaldson is 4-for-15 with a double in his career against Martinez.

Nick Martinez’s search for his first home win of the year continues tonight, as he takes on the visiting Blue Jays. Martinez, who is 1-3 with a 4.67 ERA in 10 total appearances this season, is winless—with a 4.05 ERA—in five games pitched in Arlington.

Martinez hasn’t pitched over five innings in five of his past six outings so expect the Rangers’ bullpen to get a bigger role later tonight. Texas’ relievers have a collective 4.68 ERA, which is one of the worst in the majors though.

The offense could come through for Texas against the lefty Liriano, who is 0-1 on the road with an 8.16 ERA in four starts away from Canada.

Speaking of lefties, Elvis Andrus is batting .281 (16-for-57) this season against southpaws, while Jonathan Lucroy is hitting .292 (14-for-48) in the same batter-pitcher matchup. Texas is also 2-0 in its last two games against lefty starters.

Writer’s Prediction
