Betting on the Villanova Wildcats (odds)
Record: 21-6 Overall/14-3 Conference
Villanova is loving how things are turning out for it lately. The Wildcats continue to have success in the Big 12, with a 74-66 home win last Saturday over the Georgetown Hoyas. That’s Villanova’s 14th win against three losses in conference play and fifth in a row. That stretch began with an 85-74 home victory against the Huskies on Feb. 5. In that game, Eric Dixon scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Wildcats, while Collin Gillespie had 19 points and three rebounds. Villanova, which is No. 1 in the Bog East with 113.3 points per 100 possessions, shot close to 60 percent from the field against UConn and also went 6/11 from behind the arc. The Wildcats just know how to get things done on both ends of the floor in an efficient manner, and those were reflected by their win against the Huskies.
Villanova, which is 26th in the nation with only 63.1 points allowed per game, is 4-2-1 against the spread in its last seven games as the road team.
Betting on the Connecticut Huskies (odds)
Record: 19-7 Overall/10-5 Conference
Since their loss to Villanova, the Huskies have gone 4-1 straight up in five games, including their 72-61 home win last Saturday at home to the Xavier Musketeers. However, the Huskies managed to cover the spread just twice in that same span. Nevertheless, Connecticut knows that it can rely on RJ Cole to deliver for the team. Cole had 25 points in the first meeting with Villanova. UConn also didn’t have much trouble making its shots in the face of the Wildcats’ stout defense, as the Huskies shot 50 percent from the field and went 8/20 from downtown. A slow start basically doomed the Huskies in that game, as they scored only 29 points in the first half before turning it on in the final 20 minutes with an output of 45 points. More familiar with Villanova’s defensive tendencies, the Huskies could have greater success offensively this time around. UConn is top 30 in the nation in both offensive and defensive efficiencies, per KenPom.
The Under is 3-1 in Connecticut’s last four games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
