Betting on the Virginia Cavaliers 6-4 (+19)

Virginia started the year strong, taking five of their first six games. But here in Week 12 of the 2017 college football season they hope to improve their record and bounce back from a 38-21 loss to the Cardinals.

The Cavaliers led 7-0 early in the game, but let that slip and trailed 17-14 deep into the third quarter. Not too far gone, but when they proceeded to give up TDs on three straight Louisville possessions they lost all hope of recovering to cover as 14-point underdogs.

While the 19-point dog status against Miami doesn’t bode well, it is worth noting that in Week 10, Virginia beat Georgia Tech 40-36. Remember that the Yellow Jackets almost beat Miami earlier in the season season. Virginia is also playing with some fire under their heels, with a respectable 6-4 overall record that has them bowl eligible for the first time in six years.

Betting on the Miami Hurricanes 9-0 (-19)

The Miami Hurricanes are not only on an undefeated winning streak for 2017, they are extending upon a run from last year that has them at an FBS-best 14 games straight without a loss.

The Hurricanes met Notre Dame last week, scoring twice in the first quarter to take an early 14-0 lead that was extended to 27-0 at the half. That wasn’t enough, so they pushed it to 34-0 before allowing the Fighting Irish to get on the board on the way to a final score of 41-8.

For the game, Miami outgained their opponent 374-261 and outrushed them 237-109, holding a 34-26 advantage in time of possession and winning the turnover stat by a total of 4-0.

Miami has now won their last two games (against good teams) by a total score of 69-18.

With a current 6-0 in conference play, the Hurricanes have already clinched a first berth in the ACC championship game. Factor in the 9-0 overall record, and it’s safe to say that the Hurricanes are in a great position to battle for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Writer’s Prediction

Miami is finishing the season strong while Virginia is struggling through the second half of the year. Pick: Miami Hurricanes to win and cover.
