Betting on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (+11)
Record: 20-6 Overall/10-5 Conference
Wake Forest took a stumble last Saturday, with the Demon Deacons getting tripped up by the Miami Hurricanes at home, 76-72. The Demon Deacons actually shot well from the field against Miami, making 54.9 percent of their shots from the floor, but they simply just couldn’t take care of the leather, Wake Forest committed 17 turnovers, 10 more than Miami. Needless, to say, the Demon Deacons will have to clean that up and cut down on their turnovers against a high-powered Duke offense that would love to convert extra possessions off turnovers into more points. Wake Forest is also hoping that its outside shooting will show up in the rematch with the Blue Devils. The team was only 2/16 from deep in a 76-64 home loss to Duke back in January, but was 9/21 over the Canes.
Wake Forest is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (-11)
Record: 21-4 Overall/11-3 Conference
Duke is humming again. After a surprising loss to the Virginia Cavaliers on Feb. 7, the Blue Devils responded to that by taking two games in a row, beating the Clemson Tigers on the road, 82-64, and the Boston College Eagles also on the road, 72-61. Paolo Bancher shined once again in the Eagles game, coming up with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Banchero is expected to become a future lottery pick in the NBA as soon as this year for a reason and that was on full display in that game – and in Duke’s 76-64 road win against the Demon Deacons on Jan 12. In that game, Banchero dropped 24 points, while AJ Griffin added 22 points. Duke just had its way against the Demon Deacons’ defense, as the Blue Devils shot 50.8 percent from the field and went 7/15 from deep. Duke’s defense also frustrated the Demon Deacons, who had 15 turnovers to just seven by the Blue Devils.
Duke, ranked first in ACC play with just 96.9 points allowed per 100 possessions, is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Duke wins, 77-66.
