Betting on the Washington Commanders (+1.5)

Regular Season Record: 1-0

The Commanders won in Carson Wentz’s debut for the team, as they defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday, 28-22. Wentz went 27/41 for 313 passing yards and four touchdowns against two interceptions. It was an up-and-down performance for Wentz, who will have to put together cleaner outings sooner than later, especially once Washington starts to face the playoff contenders – which Detroit is likely not. Wentz and the Commanders’ passing attack could have plenty of success in Week 2 versus the Lions’ defense that allowed nearly 40 points in Week 1.

The Commanders are 7-2-1 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.

The Under is 5-1 in the Commanders’ last six games as a road favorite.

Bet on the Washington Football Team

Betting on the Detroit Lions (-1.5)

Regular Season Record: 0-1

The Lions lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1 at home, 38-35. While a loss will never be ideal for any team to start a season, Detroit can still gain confidence from that game. For one, the Lions scored that many points against a team that made the NFL playoffs last season. Running back D’Andre Swift is also one of the best young offensive weapons in the NFL today, and he showed that again by rushing for 144 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Jared Goff was 21/37 for 215 passing yards in Week 1 with an interception but had two touchdown passes. Goff isn’t an elite quarterback, but he could also get into a rhythm and has solid weapons downfield in Amon-Ra St. Brown and DJ Chark.

The Over is 7-2 in the Lions’ last nine games in September.

Bet on the Detroit Lions

Writer’s Prediction

The Lions win, 27-24.
