Betting on the West Virginia Mountaineers (21-8)
West Virginia played inspired basketball this past Monday, as the Mountaineers downed No. 12 Texas Tech at home, 84-74. It was the final home game for Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles Jr., and the two made sure they put on a show, as the duo scored 21 and 18 points, respectively. Considering that they scored that much against the Red Raiders’ tough defense and that the Mountaineers shot 49.2 percent from the floor, they could be expected to do the same to Texas this coming Saturday. In the first meeting between the two teams, WVU toppled Texas, 86-51, at home on Jan. 20 with the Mountaineers getting a total of 37 points from Carter and Miles Jr. The Mountaineers’ smothering defense also crippled Texas, which had 15 turnovers.
West Virginia is scoring 80.3 points per game, and is 5-3 against the spread (ATS) in its last eight road games.
Betting on the Texas Longhorns (17-12)
After a sorry loss to No. 6 Kansas on Monday, 80-70, the Longhorns will look to net a big win in their home finale against the visiting Mountaineers unit. Texas, however, could be facing West Virginia minus the Longhorns’ best player: Mohamed Bamba. Bamba sat out the Kansas game with an injured toe. In the event that Bamba would be ultimately ruled out for the rematch with WVU, 6-9 forward Dylan Osetkowski will have to step up. Osetkowski had 13 points and five rebounds in the Kansas game. Texas also needs to slow down the Mountaineers. In the first meeting, West Virginia hit 12 three-pointers and attempted 68 shots from the field, primarily because it had 16 more rebounds that the Longhorns. On the season, Texas is allowing just 67.4 points per game.
Texas is 4-0 ATS in its last four home games against the Mountaineers.
