There’s a three-way tie atop the Big 12 standings, but it won’t stay that way past this coming Saturday as the West Virginia Mountaineers (+10000 to win the 2019 College Football Championship) take on the Texas Longhorns in Austin. Both teams sport a 4-1 conference record and the winner of this game, provided that the Oklahoma Sooners loses this weekend, will be the sole owner of the best record in the Big 12.

Betting on the West Virginia Mountaineers (6-1 Overall / 4-1 Conference)
After taking their first loss of the season in a 30-14 defeat at the hands of the Cyclones on Oct. 14, West Virginia recovered and avoided a losing skid by thumping the Baylor Bears at home last Saturday, 58-14. Mountaineers quarterback Will Grier was solid in the pocket in that game, passing for 353 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions, while the team’s backfield complemented him with 172 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Obviously, yards and points were not hard to come by for West Virginia last week and they also showed up with sharp teeth defensively, having limited the Bears to only 287 total yards. West Virginia had 12 tackles for loss and five sacks, and if it could duplicate that effort against the Longhorns, who are third in the Big 12 in most sacks allowed, the Mountaineers will be in good position to get a huge resume-boosting victory.
The Mountaineers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games.
Betting on the Texas Longhorns (6-2 Overall / 4-1 Conference)
It took the Longhorns a number of quality wins to get into the top 10 of the AP Poll, but it also just took them one loss for them to make an exit from it. Texas is coming off an upset 38-25 loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys at home last weekend, largely because the Longhorns’ defense weren’t able to do a consistent job on its side of the field. The Cowboys had 321 yards on the air and 281 more on the ground. The Longhorns were not able to force any turnovers. But at least they recorded three sacks. Some would say that Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger may be uncomfortable early in the game after being doubted to play coming off a shoulder injury, but he should feel better next time around after another week of rest. Ehlinger
The Longhorns are 2-1 ATS in their last three home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Texas wins, 28-24.
