Betting on the New York Yankees (3-2)
The New York Yankees returned to winning ways Saturday with a convincing 8-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers. CC Sabathia was superb in his first start since missing the postseason last year, allowing just three runs and four hits in six-plus innings. The Yankees will look to sustain the momentum from that huge victory when they take on the aforementioned Tigers in their series finale.Pitching for the Yankees in this ballgame is Masahiro Tanaka (0-0, 3.18 ERA). The Japanese star threw just 87 pitches over 5.2 innings on Opening Day, holding Houston to just two runs and four hits, including a homer. The Yankees lost that contest, 5-3. He is 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA in two career starts against Detroit.
For the Yankees to grab the all-important victory tonight, it’s crucial that their hitters pull their weight on the offensive end. The New York offense will rely on the red-hot Brian McCann to carry them through this evening. He scored three times in yesterday’s win against Detroit and is 7 for 15 to start the season. Also expected to contribute tonight is shortstop Starlin Castro. He had two hits on Saturday and is 9 for 20 in his first season with the Yankees.
The Yankees are 1-1 on the road this season.

Betting on the Detroit Tigers (3-1)
Starting for the Tigers this evening is Justin Verlander (0-0, 4.50 ERA). He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning Tuesday night against Miami before surrendering three hits in his final five batters, including a back-breaking two-run homer to Giancarlo Stanton. Verlander will have his work cut out for him against the Yankees as he has struggled mightily against them of late.
He is 0-3 with a 4.82 ERA in his last four starts against the Bronx Bombers. Verlander conceded a whopping eight homers during that span. The one guy Verlander needs to watch out for tonight is Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees DH has five homers in 32 at-bats against Verlander.
With Verlander having trouble against the Yankees of late, the onus is on the Tigers offense to provide some run support tonight. The Tigers managed just seven hits yesterday after recording at least 12 in each of their first three games. They’re still hitting .300 as a team, though, this season. Jose Iglesias, Ian Kinsler and J.D. Martinez have hit safely in each game this campaign.
Martinez will fancy his chances of extending that excellent form tonight as he has fared extremely well against Tanaka in his career. He is 4 for 6 with two home runs and two doubles against the Japanese hurler.
The Tigers are 1-4 in their last five home games against the Yankees.
