Betting on the Seattle Seahawks
Seattle notched its second win of the season with a 37-18 decimation of division rivals 49ers Sunday. The Seahawks cross the conference fence next, as they face the Jets on the road.
The Seahawks’ offense was humming all throughout the San Francisco game, compiling 418 total yards to just 254 by the Niners. Russell Wilson had his way against San Francisco’s defense, passing for 243 yards with a touchdown on 15 of 23 completions. Wilson could’ve done more but he was pulled out in the third quarter after hurting his left knee.
Nothing is sure yet about Wilson’s current health status but should he be declared out for next game, expect rookie Trevone Boykin to fill in under center. Boykin was fantastic in the limited minutes he subbed for Wilson against San Francisco, as the TCU product completed seven of nine passes for 65 yards with a TD to Doug Baldwin.
Running back Christine Michael and tight end Jimmy Graham, meanwhile, also had confidence-boosting performances heading into Week 4. Michael blasted SF’s defense for 106 yards with two scores on 20 carries. The Jets’ run defense, however, is no joke, ranking third in the NFL with only 71.7 yards allowed per game on the ground. Keeping Graham happy, however, might go a long way in loosening up New York’s D.
Graham played like he’s rocking a Saints uniform again versus the Niners, racking up 100 receiving yards with a touchdown on six catches—the most he’s had thus far on the year.
Betting on the New York Jets
If the Jets had a million dollar for each turnover they made on Sunday, they’d be eight million dollars richer today.
New York couldn’t stop making errors in a 24-3 road loss to the Chiefs in Week 4. The biggest goat for the Jets obviously was Ryan Fitzpatrick, who played as if his life depended on how many interceptions he’ll throw, as he giftwrapped Kansas City’s defense with six picks.
Fitzpatrick finished the game with 188 passing yards (20 of 44 completions) and probably with a psychological scar that’ll stay with him for a long time. It’s not going to get easier for Fitzpatrick and company as they get next Seattle’s defense that ranks first in the league in total defense and second in pass defense.
One thing going for Fitzpatrick is that he’s blanketed by one of the best protection units in the NFL. The Jets have allowed just two sacks on the season, so it’s just a matter of Fitzpatrick making this throws.
The Jets still have excellent playmakers on offense that could make Seattle sweat. Matt Forte, who only had 65 rushing yards versus the Chiefs, is aching to bounce back in a big way. He had 100 rushing yards on 30 carries in the Week 2 win over Buffalo.
