Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (+13)
Just when the San Francisco 49ers got things going with Colin Kaepernick back under center, they ultimately tanked their chances of beating the Saints, who drubbed them with reckless abandon on Sunday, 41-23.
Kaepernick had an amazing afternoon from a fantasy perspective, throwing for 398 yards and two touchdowns (albeit with an interception) in the loss. Four different San Francisco receivers finished with over 70 receiving yards, which is unheard of for this anemic Niners passing game. But alas, Kaepernick’s gaudy numbers are merely smoke and mirrors covering up the team’s biggest flaw.
For as long as the defense keeps playing like an FCS program in college football, the Niners are going nowhere this season. Their stop unit just gave up a whopping 571 yards of offense to the Saints, and have now given up an average of 38.3 points over the last four contests. Not even the return of star linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who’s out for the season with a torn Achilles, could possibly save this D from utter futility.
What’s even worse is that the Niners have lost lost nine of their last 10 road games (2-8 ATS). You no longer have to wonder as for why they’re the only team in Week 10 that’s priced as double-digit underdogs.
Betting on the Arizona Cardinals (-13)
The Arizona Cardinals entered their bye with the sour taste of defeat to the Carolina Panthers, 30-20, in Week 8.
The Panthers knew exactly how to rattle Arizona’s offense: keep applying a ton of pressure to Carson Palmer in the pocket. Although Palmer threw for 363 yards on 35-of-46 passing and three touchdowns that game, he was also picked off once and sacked a massive eight times by Carolina’s front seven. This season, the Cardinals are 0-4-1 whenever Palmer gets sacked more than once during a game.
Granted that the Cards had to play catchup early on in that contest, they still could’ve used star running back David Johnson a whole lot more. Johnson, who has 705 rushing yards and eight TDs for the season, tallied just 24 yards against the Panthers on 10 carries.
But if there’s a cure for Arizona’s recent woes, that’s another meeting with the 49ers, as the team has won four of the last five against its struggling division rivals (SU/ATS). Considering that the Niners are ranked near the bottom of the league with just 14 sacks to date, expect Palmer to have all afternoon to dissect San Francisco’s poor excuse for a “professional” defense.

The Cardinals (-13) beat the 49ers convincingly enough to cover the relatively huge spread, 34-17.
