Betting on the Los Angeles Clippers (30-17)
Losing to the Sixers this season isn’t as shameful of an experience as it was in previous years but the Clippers should still be embarrassed of themselves following a 121-110 loss to Philly on Tuesday. The loss is the Clips’ third in their last four games and they will look to get back in the win column against the Golden State Warriors on the road no less.
The Clippers definitely felt the absence of Point God Chris Paul, as they committed 19 turnovers that Philadelphia turned into 36 points. Paul will be out for several more weeks which means the Clippers will have to rely for now on Austin Rivers and Raymond Felton orchestrating the team against Golden State. Rivers, who scored 20 against Philly, is now getting minutes as a starter while Felton has been moved to the bench role again. Rivers had 14 points off the bench in the previous meeting to Golden State, a 115-98 home loss on Dec. 7.
Despite the loss to the Sixers, the Clippers were able to show how deadly they can from deep, nailing 18 threes in the contest. Jamal Crawford went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc and finished with 27 points in 33 minutes off the bench. Blake Griffin, meanwhile, collected 12 points but shot 3-for-12 from the field in his first game back since December, though his rusty shooting could be attributed to the long layoff he had to recover from a knee injury. He should get better numbers later tonight against the Warriors.
Los Angeles is averaging 108.0 points this season and is 2-1 ATS in its last three visits to Bay Area.
Betting on the Golden State Warriors (39-7)
Showing signs that they’ve clearly moved on from the spanking they received at the hands of Dion Waiters and the Heat in a 105-102 loss on Monday, the Warriors got back up by beating Charlotte on Wednesday, 113-103.
Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry as usual were just too much for their opponents, scoring 33 and 28, respectively against the Hornets. Perhaps the best third banana in the league today, Klay Thompson chipped in 19 points. The contest was close for most of the game until the Warriors turned on their boosters late in the game and pulled away late.
With the Clippers missing Chris Paul, Golden State should expect extra turnovers from LA. The Warriors are among the best in the league in turning opponents’ miscues into points, as they average 18.5 points off turnovers. The Warriors are also looking to break down LA’s interior defense by spreading the floor. They scored 28 points in the paint in the first encounter with the Clippers, who were only able to muster 38 points in the shaded area in that game.
Golden State is averaging 121.1 points per game this season at home while shooting an excellent 51.6 percent from the field.
The Warriors are 3-0 ATS in their last three home games.
