Betting on the Colorado Rockies (10-5)
Tyler Anderson hasn’t been the type of pitcher that strikes fear on opposing hitters but the Rockies will have to hope he handles himself well on the mound later tonight against the Dodgers.
Anderson has been a mess so far this season. He’s sporting a 1-2 record along with a dizzying 8.52 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP in three starts. Anderson’s lucky to get a win in his season debut, when he gave up five earned runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings in a 6-5 road victory over Milwaukee on Apr. 4.
Colorado’s offense has been lights out this season so much that wobbly pitchers like Anderson manage to cheat their way into some wins. Colorado’s pitchers enjoy the second fattest run support in the league per Fangraphs.
It’s the same kind of offense the Rockies are hoping to show up tonight in Chavez Ravine. The Rockies were able to dominate Clayton Kershaw at home back in Apr. 8, when they scored four runs on eight hits, including a pair of homers, off the southpaw in a 4-2 home win.
Nolan Arenado is 12-for-36 (.333) with two home runs in his career against Kershaw. Gerardo Parra isn’t fazed by Kershaw either, with a lifetime 12-for-33 (.364).
Anderson last took the mound surrendering four earned runs on five hits in just four frames of an 8-2 road loss to San Francisco on Apr. 14.
Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (7-8)
It’s not often that Clayton Kershaw get rocked so tonight, the lefty will look to get back at the Rockies as he searches for his third win of the season.
After an un-Kershaw-like performance in the aforementioned loss to Colorado, Kershaw returned to his usual form the following start, limiting Arizona to just a run while giving up only four hits in 8.1 innings of a 7-1 home victory on Apr. 14.
Kershaw is currently 2-1 with a 2.53 ERA and 0.70 WHIP. Both his wins so far came at home, where the Dodgers are almost unbeatable when Kershaw is making a start. Dating back to 2016, the Dodgers are 10-0 in their last 10 home games with the lefty strikeout machine on the mound. Kershaw made one start at Dodger Stadium last year against the Rockies and it was a masterpiece, as he tossed seven scoreless innings allowing just three hits while fanning six hitters.
Writer’s Prediction
Los Angeles (-265) wins, 5-3.
