The National League Central-leading Brewers continued their great stretch Thursday night. They cruised past the Chicago Cubs in their one-off, 11-2, including a seven-run third inning. It was their seventh win in eight games.
Among the key numbers in the great performance was their 13-hit, 10-RBI production, which had Domingo Santana and the unheralded Jesus Aguilar combine for seven hits, with the former also tallying three runs and two RBIs.
Moving forward, Santana and the rising Orlando Arcia, who has 10 hits, two homers, four RBIs, and four runs in the past week, can be expected to join the explosive batting party of the Brewers.
The offense may have to do a lot tomorrow night, since their projected starter on the mound, Junior Guerra, is having a forgettable season. The Venezuelan has only earned a 1-3 win-loss card with a 4.93 ERA in nine starts, and he has allowed 12 runs on 12 hits and six walks in his last eight innings (nine strikeouts).

The once-beaming Yankees are slumping consistently again. Following the 7-6 defeat to current American League East last placers Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night, they have now dropped four of their last five.
Aaron Judge is still being a hitting and home run machine, and Brett Gardner is also entering a nice roll (nine hits, seven runs, and six RBIs in the past week), which is something to look forward to offensively.
For the most part, though, particularly in their last five games, the Yanks have been messy on both sides of the field – along with collectively hitting an awful .215, their pitchers can only compile a 6.07 ERA in those contests.
Jordan Montgomery is next in line for the starting pitcher duties, and he should be able to better the lowly pitching numbers. The rookie is 6-4 with a 3.62 ERA in 15 mound appearances this season. In his last 18 innings, he has given up six runs on 15 hits and four walks (17 Ks).
Writer’s Prediction
