Betting on the Georgia Bulldogs (+6.5)

The Bulldogs cruised in their 2017 debut, courtesy of an old school, ground and pound brand of football that’s rarely seen today. It was a 31-10 routing against the Appalachian State Mountaineers.

The passing game was decent, with Jake Frohm throwing for 143 yards and one touchdown in just 10 completions. However, there’s no debating that the running backs did most of the damage, as they combined for 221 yards and three TDs. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel tallied those rushing scores and collectively ran 5.9 yards per carry.

On defense, the disruption was mostly made by the front seven. They only had a pair of sacks, but overall, they did a good job stomping the opposition in the line of scrimmage, as they recorded seven tackles for loss.

Considering how effective their run-heavy scheme was, we may see the Bulldogs continue doing as such. Week 2 won’t be as easy, though, the Fighting Irish are an elite program with over a dozen times of talent compared to the Mountaineers, both offensively and defensively.

Dating back to last season, the Bulldogs are 8-2 on the road (7-3 ATS).

Betting on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-6.5)

An impressive start was showcased by the Fighting Irish. They rag dolled the Temple Owls on Sunday, 49-16, and was just flat-out better on both ends.

On offense, QB Brandon Wimbush was everywhere. The first-time starter accounted for a total of 290 yards (194 passing and 106 rushing), while also tossing two TDs and running for one. Equanimeous St. Brown, as expected, was the primary receiver, as he had four catches for 80 yards and a TD.

The running game was also superb, so much so that it was one of the school’s most prolific days on the ground in recent memory. Three men ran for over 100 yards – Wimbush, Dexter Williams, and main back Josh Adams – with the latter’s 161 being a game-high. In total, Notre Dame’s rushing attack punched-in 422 yards and five TDs.

As you may have probably guessed from the score, the defense also had a fun day. They suffocated rushers for 11 tackles for loss, which eventually resulted in only allowing 2.3 yards per carry, and also got to the opposing QB seven times (three were sacks).

It’s a defensive performance that’ll serve as a good warm up for Georgia, which’ll be another foe that’s aggressive in running the ball. Their matchup with the freshman QB, who’s still acting as a game manager (at least for now), should also put them in a favorable position.

Dating back to last season, the Fighting Irish have won three of their last four games at home (SU and ATS).
