Betting on the Kansas City Royals (72-74)

Point Spread: +190

The Royals came close last night, but not close enough to end the Indians’ epic win streak. Jason Vargas is now set to get the start for the Royals tonight as he looks to end Kansas City’s current run of two straight defeats.

The 34-year-old lefty has been a roller coaster ride this season. He won an incredible six decisions in June and the Royals were 10-1 in his starts until July. However, he had a disastrous August as he went just 1-5 with a 7.18 ERA.

Vargas had his worst start of the year in his first start of September as he gave up seven earned runs in two innings. However, he finally returned back to respectability in his most recent start as he gave up just one earned run in five innings to get the 11-3 win against the Minnesota Twins.

Vargas’ performances against the Indians have reflected his confounding season. In his first three starts against the Tribe, he gave up just two earned runs in 20.2 innings. But in his two starts against them last month, he ceded eight earned runs on 12 hits in 9.2 innings of work.

Betting on the Cleveland Indians (91-56)

Point Spread: -220

The streak is still alive. The Indians came from behind to win last night’s game against the Royals in extra-innings, which extended their run to 22 consecutive wins, a new MLB record.

It’ll be up to right-hander Trevor Bauer to get them No. 23. Bauer had yet another strong outing last time out against the Baltimore Orioles. He went 6.1 innings and gave up just two runs for the second consecutive start.

Bauer has been brilliant for some time now. He’s won nine consecutive decisions and has a solid 2.51 ERA since July 27. The Indians have gone 9-2 in his last 11 starts.

Bauer had to exit his start against Kansas City in June early, but he was terrific in last month’s start against them. He threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball to lead the Indians to a 5-0 win.

Writer’s Prediction

Bauer continues to deal as the Indians (-220) take their historic run to 23 in a row.
