Betting on the New England Patriots (7-2)
New England is on a five-game winning streak, adding its fifth in the form of a 41-16 dismantling of the Denver Broncos while on the road in Week 10.
The Patriots capitalized on an early Broncos turnover, turning it into a score, and added another to go 14-3 when running back Dion Lewis returned a kickoff for 103 yards for a touchdown. New England added one more TD before halftime for good measure, and cruised on through to conclude the game and cover with ease as seven-point favorites. The glory days of a high-octane Patriots vs Broncos match-up have come to pass.
The Patriots outgained Denver 396-339, won the turnover battle 2-0, and committed just one penalty while only punting once.
New England currently boasts a 12-game winning streak on the road, which is the second longest in NFL history. Throughout this run, they have gone 10-2 against the spread.
With a current 7-2 overall record, the Patriots hover in the No. 2 spot in the AFC, only a tiebreaker behind the top-seeded Pittsburgh Steelers.
Betting on the Oakland Raiders (4-5)
The Raiders bounced back from a poor performance at Buffalo to take a 27-24 road victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in Week 9, before enjoying a bye week.
Oakland trailed (6-3) Miami deep into the second quarter but managed to score twice just before the half, entering the third with a narrow 13-9 lead. The Raiders then drove their first possession of the second half for a total of 67 yards to a TD and held on for the win and covered as a three-point favorites.
On the game, Oakland put up 379 offensive yards, with QB Derek Carr throwing for 300 yards. Carr wad feeling it with tight end Jared Cook, hitting him eight times for an end result of 126 yards (Cook).
The Raiders 4-5 record on paper isn’t great, but they are only a single game out of the No. 6 seed in the AFC. Given that Oakland already has two victories against first-place (at the time of play) teams in the 2017 season (Tennessee and Kansas City) a strong performance against the Patriots is not out of question, especially when playing in one of the league’s international series adventures.
Writer’s Prediction:
The Patriots road game winning streak noted above doesn’t really mean that much since both teams are playing away from home. However, with the Pats leading the league in total offense, and enjoying a current stretch that has them holding their last five opponents to 17 points or less, things don’t look all that great for the Raiders. Pick: Smart money here gives the points with New England.
