Betting on the Greenbay Packers (7-8)
The Packers season has been one to forget. Aaron Rodgers went down with a broken collar bone, resulting in this team really just flopping. He returned a few weeks back trying to save the Packers season, but was immediately placed back on the IR after a loss.
Green Bay has turned to Brett Hundley, who all things considered hasn’t done that bad of a job. While the play calling had to be scaled back some, the Packers still have at least found their backup of the future. Hundley has thrown for 1664 yards this season, but his 8 touchdowns to 10 interceptions has been his biggest issue.
The Packers offense has taken a few steps up with him in charge, which included a 0 point effort against the Vikings last week. Green Bay has gone 8-3 ATS in their last 11 meetings in Detroit and 16-7 ATS in their last 23 meetings. However, it’s important to note obviously that Rodgers has been the playcaller in those instances.
Betting on the Detroit Lions (8-7)
Detroit had a lot of disappointments in their loss in Cincinnati last week. The Lions simply couldn’t find an answer on the defensive end in the 2nd half and saw Cincinnati march down the field on them in what eventually led to a 9 point loss. Detroit’s defense has been the biggest liability this season really.
The Lions rank 27th in the NFL in yards against, giving up 362.4 per game. The 24.3 points per game against ranks 25th in the NFL as they have allowed big drive after big drive.
They’ll have a shot here to improve those numbers as Green Bay’s offense has really limited their shots down field and become one dimensional. Overall, the month of December has not been kind to the Lions either. They have gone 8-20-1 ATS in their last 29 games in December and come into this one just 3-4 ATS overall at home this year.
Writer’s Prediction
Without Aaron Rodgers, the Packers have been unable to get anything going with their new quarterback under center. Take the Lions as they will easily cover the spread at home this Sunday. Pick: Lions (-7)
