Betting on the Denver Broncos (2-4)
After kicking off the season with two straight wins, the Broncos are now nursing a four-game winless streak that they hope to end in Arizona this week. In their last outing, Denver lost a close one to the Los Angeles Rams at home, 23-20. While it’s encouraging for them to see that they were able to hang with the undefeated Rams unit, the fact remains that they still lost. The Rams ran circles around Denver’s offense that gave up 270 rushing yards to Todd Gurley and company. Denver general manager John Elway has already gone out of his way to call the team’s run defense “soft,” after the debacle in the Rams game, though, the Broncos should have an easier time around to deal with Arizona’s backfield. Even with David Johnson on their roster, the Cardinals are still last in the league with just a 64.0 rushing yards per game average. Rusty run defense aside, the Broncos should be thrilled at the prospect of making life hard in the pocket for Arizona quarterback Josh Rosen after sacking Jared Gaff five times last week.
The under is 3-1 in Denver’s last four road games.
Betting on the Arizona Cardinals (1-5)
The Cardinals have plenty of issues they need to fix but can’t in just a week after losing to the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday, 27-17. Still, they are hoping to have some more success in moving the chains against the also struggling defense of Denver. Rosen completed 21 of 31 passes for 240 yards and had zero touchdowns with an interception. Arizona went 0-of-12 on third and fourth down attempts, but Denver’s defense that’s 17th on third down situations and 27th in fourth down cases should offer better opportunities for the young quarterback and Arizona’s offense. Another rookie who’s looking to make a splash this week is wide receiver Christian Kirk. The Texas A&M product has recorded at least 77 receiving yards in each of the Cards’ last two games.
If you’re not feeling good about betting on the Cardinals, maybe this will help you cut them some slack: The Cardinals are 3-0 ATS in their last three games as a home underdog.
Writer’s Prediction
Denver wins, 26-21.
