Betting on the New Orleans Saints (5-1)

If there’s one glaring issue for the Saints this season, it’s got to be their comical pass defense that ranks 28th in the league with 293.7 passing yards allowed per game. However, it’s time to take New Orleans’ secondary a bit more seriously. That’s after the team acquired cornerback Eli Apple from the New York Giants via a trade. Apple is a former first-rounder, who probably just needs to get out of a seemingly toxic locker room to play to his potential. Apple should play a key role right away, as the Saints look to contain the attack of the pass-heavy Vikings. Speaking of attack, the Saints are among the best in the NFL with averages of 34.0 points and 409.8 total yards per game. They went below par in terms of offensive production in Week 7’s 24-23 escape of a win against the Baltimore Ravens on the road, but that’s still commendable considering how brutish the Ravens’ defense has been this season.

The Saints are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games.

Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (4-2-1)

The Vikings have just the perfect test for the Saints’ new guy, Eli Apple. That’s Minnesota wide receiver Adam Thielen, who’s just been killing it on the field this season. In last week’s 37-17 demolition job of a road win over the New York Jets, Thielen extended his streak of 100 receiving yards to seven games by racking up 110 to go with a touchdown on nine receptions. The Vikings are averaging 293.0 passing yards per game and they will definitely look to punish the Saints’ leaky pass defense. Minnesota’s backfield can deal serious damage, too, though, even with running back Dalvin Cook reportedly out until at least Week 11 due to a hamstring injury. Tailback Latavius Murray has been a serviceable placeholder for Cook, as the six-year pro has recorded 224 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the last two games.

The Vikings are 8-2 SU and 5-4-1 ATS in their last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

New Orelans wins, 31-27.
